Elctrical Disconnects

An electrical disconnect is used to make sure that an electrical circuit can be completely de-energised for service or maintenance. When installing an air conditioner condenser or a heat pump this device is required. The NEC or National Electric Code requires the disconnect to be with-in an arms reach of the unit being worked on to insure there is no possibility of accidental electrocution by someone else inadvertently re-applying power to a tripped breaker or a fuse that has been removed for the purpose of service.
